Dekáf Launches "A Sundown Affair," Its First Three-Expression Seasonal Decaf

Dekáf Coffee Roasters, today announced A Sundown Affair, a limited seasonal decaf blend created from Ethiopia Sidamo Bombe and a new limited-harvest Colombia Excelso from smallholder producers in Huila.

The release presents the same blend in three independently developed roast profiles: Nordic (light expression), City (medium expression), and Italian (dark expression). It is the first installment in Dekáf’s seasonal multi-expression series to include a medium roast.

Dekáf created its multi-expression releases to give decaf drinkers an opportunity to experience roast development more closely. By keeping the coffees and blend proportions constant, customers can taste how roasting changes not only the intensity of a coffee, but the shape and placement of its flavors. A note that leads in one expression may soften, deepen, or become a supporting layer in another.

The addition of a City roast turns the release into a three-point tasting rather than a comparison of two extremes (previous limited releases contrasted only a Nordic and Italian roast). Each profile was developed independently, giving customers a clearer reference for what remains, what deepens, and what changes position as roast development increases. Tasted together, the profiles reveal a near reversal.

The three profiles offer distinctly different interpretations:

• Nordic/Light Expression: Bright and lively, with notes of green apple gummy, cranberry compote, and wildflower honey.

• City/Medium Expression: Rounded and gently warming, with notes of panettone, pear galette, and rum raisin ice cream.

• Italian/Dark Expression: Deep and fruit-rich, with notes of dark chocolate cake, fig jam cookie, and mulled wine.

The limited Colombia component brings together washed coffees grown by smallholder families across Huila in southern Colombia. Rather than representing a single estate, the lot reflects the collective work and agricultural knowledge of producers throughout the region. Both components are decaffeinated using the Swiss Water® Process, which removes caffeine without chemical solvents.

A Sundown Affair is available in 12-ounce and one-pound bags as whole bean or custom ground coffee. Each expression can be purchased individually or together in the three-roast Fall Bundle.
